Rotating electrical machines. Classification of degrees of protection provided by enclosures for rotating machines
Status: Not effective - Superseded. IUS 2-2013
The standard classifies the degrees of protection provided by the shells of electric rotating machines without limiting power, speed and voltage. The standard establishes the degree of personnel protection against contact with current-carrying or moving parts inside the machine, the degree of protection against the penetration of solid foreign bodies and water into the machine, as well as the designations and test methods for the degrees of protection. The standard establishes the requirements that protective shells must meet. The standard applies only to shells, which in all other respects correspond to their purpose, the materials and design of which, under normal operating conditions, ensure the invariance of any degree of protection prescribed by this standard. The standard does not establish the degree of protection of machines against mechanical damage or against such effects as moisture (resulting, for example, as a result of condensation), corrosive vapors, mold fungi, etc., and also does not indicate ways of protecting machines intended for use in an explosive environment. .
