The standard establishes general requirements for the method of detection and identification of the specific microorganism Pseudomonas aeruginosa in perfumery and cosmetic products. Microorganisms considered in the standard, depending on the applicable national practice or the requirements of national regulations in different countries, may or may not be specific. To ensure the quality and safety of products for the consumer, it is recommended to conduct an appropriate analysis of microbiological risk in order to determine the types of perfumes and cosmetics, to which the standard is applicable. Products with a low degree of microbiological risk (see ISO 29621) include products with low water activity, alcohol-based products, products with extreme pH values, etc. The method established in the standard is based on the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a non-selective liquid medium (enrichment broth), followed by isolation of microorganisms on a selective agar medium. Other methods can be used depending on the level of detection required.
