The standard establishes test methods for polymeric materials for insulation and sheathing of power cables and communication cables, including ship cables, and establishes methods for determining density, water absorption and shrinkage for the most common types of insulation and sheath compositions (elastomeric, PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, etc. ).

Стандарт устанавливает методы испытаний полимерных материалов изоляции и оболочки силовыхкабелей и кабелей связи, включая судовые кабели, и устанавливает методы определения плотности, водопоглощения и усадки для наиболее общих типов композиций для изоляции и оболочки (эластомерных, поливинилхлоридного пластиката, полиэтилена, полипропилена и т.д.).
