The standard applies to silica (IV) (anhydrous silicic acid), which is a white crystalline powder with intergrowths of crystals of various shapes and sizes, insoluble in nitric, sulfuric and hydrochloric acids, soluble in hydrofluoric acid and in alkali solutions.
