This standard applies to the fruits of eggplants cultivated varieties of Solanum melongena L., supplied for sale in fresh packaged form in retail trade to the consumer and not intended for processing. The purpose of the standard is to determine the quality and safety requirements of fresh eggplants after preparation and packaging prior to sale to the consumer.
