The standard applies to the fruits of eggplants cultivated varieties Solanum melongena L., supplied for fresh sale in retail trade to the consumer and not intended for processing. The purpose of the standard is to determine the quality and safety requirements of fresh eggplants after preparation and packaging prior to sale to the consumer.
