This standard establishes the requirements for an environmental management system to assist an organization in determining its policies and targets, taking into account the requirements of laws and data on significant environmental impacts. It applies to those environmental aspects that an organization can control and that it is supposed to influence. The standard does not establish specific criteria for environmental performance.
