Steels. Micrographic determination of the apparent grain size
Status: Not effective - Superseded. Registration information 1568-st dated 10/16/2015 (the official website of FSUE "Standartinform"); (IUS 5-2016)
This standard establishes a metallographic method for determining the observed size of ferritic or austenitic grain in steels. It describes methods for detecting grain boundaries and estimating the average grain size in samples with a unimodal grain size distribution. Although the grains have a three-dimensional shape, the microsection plane can intersect the grain at any point from the grain angle to the maximum grain diameter, thus creating a wide range of grain sizes observed on the two-dimensional plane even in a sample with perfectly matching grain sizes.
