The standard establishes general requirements and rules for compiling a bibliographic description of a document, its part or group of documents: a set of areas and elements of a bibliographic description, the sequence of their location, content and method of representing elements, the use of prescribed punctuation and abbreviations. The standard applies to the description of documents, which is compiled by libraries, bodies of scientific and technical information, centers of state bibliography, izzhateley, other bibliographic agencies.
Стандарт устанвливает общие требования и правила составления библиографическиого описания документа, его части или группы документов: набор областей и элементов библиографического описания, последовательность их расположения, наполнение и способ представления элементов, применение предписанной пунктуации и сокращений. Стандарт распространяется на описание документов, которое составляется библиотеками, органами научно-технической информации, центрами государственной библиографии, изжателями, другими библиографирующими учреждениями.
