This standard covers matters that must be considered when using electrical, electronic, programmable electronic systems to perform safety functions. The main purpose of this standard is to facilitate the development of standards for products and areas of application by technical committees responsible for these products and areas of application. This will fully take into account the significant factors associated with the product or application, and thus meet the specific needs of the application and consumers of the product. Another objective of this standard is to make possible the development of electrical, electronic, programmable electronic systems related to safety, in the absence of possible standards for applications. This standard applies to safety-related systems where one or more of these systems include electrical, electronic, programmable electronic components.
